Þrumufleygur Assessment
Þrumufleygur on the breeding show. Mynd. Óðinn Örn
Þrumufleygur was shown for the first time in May 2010. There has been horse virus going on this spring in Iceland and we wanted to take Þrumufleygur to a breeding show before he would get sick. All of the horses in Iceland are susceptible for this virus and are sick or will be sick after certain time. Read more about the virus Here. John Kristinn trainer of Þrumufleygur decided with short preperation to take him to breeding show Tuesday 25. May 2010. Þrumufleygur had never show any symptoms of the virus and John assumed him healthy.
The pre show did not work out 100%. He was really good on Tölt and Trot and Gallop but the pace was not the best that day. The track was very very hard and John had just finish to shoe him in the back on lighter shoes and cut him down in the back. Because he feelt like Þrumufleygur was to much into pace and wanted to make him a little bit 4-beated. But this much changes are too much for such a young horse that is getting his balance. The track was just to hard this day.
We really wanted to fix the pace score on the overall show, and we also thought he where knocking on higher scores also for tölt, willingness and form under rider up to 9. But....
They day after the show Þrumufleygur lie the hole day. And the morning of the overall show he had 39,5° fever. So Þrumufleygur was not able to finish his show unfortunately. The veterinary came the same day and treated him and the fever was back to normal that night. Few days later he started to have slim in his nose and cough. That are the symptoms of the virus so Þrumuflegur propably had the virus when he was shown. But that did not abate his riding abilities. He is a tough one this young stallion!
